This is something that I have been thinking about for years. The idea of becoming a teacher sounded nice, but it also felt out of reach. I never thought I would be able to conquer the CSET. It took me two tries and I had to invest in some online test preparation, but it paid off.
I am so excited to announce that I will be starting my Master of Arts in Teaching and my Single Subject Credential in English at the University of La Verne in Fall 2020. My goal is to become a high school English and Theatre teacher.
I’ve been balancing separate careers in Higher Education and Theatre over the last 3 years since I graduated college. I feel like it just makes sense to put my two passions together into one career.
My classes will be in the evenings so I will still be working at the University of La Verne during the day and I will be able to use my tuition remission benefit to help offset the cost of school.
Finally, I have also decided that I want to document as much of this experience as possible on my website. I’ve been searching for videos and blog posts about the teaching credential experience so I can mentally prepare. But I have to admit, I wish there was more content out there. My hope is that I can share my experiences to help prepare future teaching credential students.
It is going to be an unpredictable journey, especially since I will be starting my program during COVID-19. The pandemic has dramatically changed our way of life and the classroom is no exception. However, I feel like I am meant to do this. All of the threads of my life have intertwined to prepare me for my purpose on this earth.
Thank you to all of the family, friends, mentors, and colleagues that have helped me to get to this point. I am so excited to share this journey with all of you.
